How to Close Your Account and Cancel Amazon Monthly Fees

There have been some questions about how to stop from paying subscription fees as well as closing your selling account. They are mutually exclusive action so we wanted to provide some information below to clean this up.

Do you want to stop paying the $39.99 Professional Selling Fee?

You can choose to downgrade your account from a Professional selling plan to an Individual selling plan if you don't want to be charged a monthly subscription fee at anytime. To downgrade your account to an Individual selling plan, click Downgrade in My services. For more information, see Selling plans.

Are you looking to close your account completely?

If you choose to close your account, go to Settings and click Account Info. In the Account Management section on the right hand side of the page, click Close Account. Fill in all the required fields and click Send to submit your request. We will then contact you for assistance. You will receive a confirmation email once your account has been closed, or an email detailing why your account can't be closed at this time and additional steps required. Note that you must close each regional account individually: North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia. If you keep any accounts open with a Professional selling plan and have buyable listings, you will still be subject to a monthly subscription fee. For more information on monthly subscription fees for merged accounts, go to Merging accounts. You can see a list of your global accounts here.

Steps to take before closing your seller account

If you decide to permanently close your account, follow these steps:

  1. Fulfill any outstanding orders.
  2. Wait 90 days after your last sale to ensure the A-to-z Guarantee claims period is honored.
  3. Wait until you have a zero balance in your account (your next disbursement or charge date).
  4. Resolve all of your transactions with buyers, including issuing any necessary refunds.
  5. Confirm that your bank account information on file is up-to-date to receive a final payment.
  6. Check your Performance notifications to make sure that all the reasons for your account's suspension have been resolved and your account is restored.

Some important notes to be aware of:

  • Accounts cannot be closed within 90 days of your last sale. This guarantees that the A-to-z Guarantee claim period is honored
  • If you have any open A-to-z Guarantee claims, your account must remain open until they're settled.
  • Your account balance must be zero before your account can be closed.

Hopefully this helps to clear up any confusion around this. Additionally, you can view more in-depth information by visiting this page, Close your seller account.

It says that when you close an account, you no longer have any access to it at all. Understandable, but how does tax information for the current year get sent as now it is downloaded from the account?

Also, I have a professional account. If I downgrade it to a personal one, so I don't have to pay the $40 a month while waiting 3 90 day waiting period, will the tax info for this year still still come to the company, or will it all be under personal?

Thank you
